The Er Grah tumulus

le tumulus d'Er Grah

Quite different from the Merchants' Table, let yourself be amazed by this tomb of exceptional dimensions, which has revealed some remarkable funerary furnishings!

An intriguing monument

A site of extraordinary proportions

First of all, archaeologists discovered that this monument had not been built all at once, but over several centuries. Starting out as a small cairn, the architecture was stretched to the north and south to reach a length of almost 140 metres, forming this distinctive trapezoidal structure of stone and earth: a tumulus.

Objects that take us on a journey

It's not just its length that makes you dizzy, but also the provenance of the funerary objects found in the vault during archaeological digs in the early 20th century! Unusually coloured axes and pendants from the Italian Alps and the Iberian Peninsula respectively highlight the existence of a Europe-wide circulation of prestige goods at the end of prehistoric times. How were these trade networks organised?

Carnac burial mounds

The Er Grah burial mound is a spectacular burial site , reminiscent of the great Carnac burial mounds such as Mané er Hroëck in Locmariaquer, Butte de César - Tumiac burial mound in Arzon and the exceptional Saint-Michel burial mound in Carnac.
